 -a short statement indicating your high school background (what year, subjects taken, etc.)
 -project idea if you have one (it is ok if you don't)
 -why do you want to do this?
 -high school transcript
 -a recommendation letter from your agri-science or science teacher

SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

High school students are encouraged to compete for a paid summer internship. The interns will gain access to specialized FIU's soil and water labs, pesticide remediation labs, USDA-ARS research labs and field stations, the MAERC ranch research site. Students may also propose suitable research sites of their choice. The internship details include:

  • One to three months
  • $1,000 per student
  • Preference to students enrolled in the Dual Enrollment Program
  • Application before (Keep posted) with a project idea, college and career goal, teacher's recommendation and high school transcript.
  • Post-project report, essay, and poster presentation at science fairs and FIU annual workshop is required.

DUAL ENROLLMENT PROGRAM

High school students enrolled in a Miami Dade county high school are also able to participate in the dual enrollment program. The dual enrollment program provides an opportunity for students to earn high school and college credits simultaneously by taking one or both of the undergraduate agroecology core courses:

  • Agroecology (3 credits)
  • Sustainable Agriculture (3 credits)

These courses focus on theory, problems and issues in agriculture and urban developme; theyinvolve farm/field apprenticeship, sampling and monitoring, and chemical and geo-spatial laboratory analysis.
