Evaluation of Agroecology Programs
by Elvira Martinez

Purpose of Research
Evaluate the Agroecology program at Florida International University by comparing research, practices, and program structure to land-grant based Universities. Given the different goals established by FIU program, consider how it may serve as a model for teaching agricultural sciences in a non-land-grant based university. Write and publish findings in agricultural education media.

Objectives
-Determine how successful the agroecology program at FIU has been at achieving its primary goals.
-Has it helped or reinforced the sustainable agriculture model in south Florida?
-Is it taking research to end users?

" The grant that supports the program is targeting HIS universities.
o Is the agroecology program effectively recruiting minority students into agricultural careers?
o What are some ways to improve?

Proposed Methodology:
-Perform literature search for land-grant based universities and structure of educational programs.
-Conduct reviews of grant proposals and previous evaluations of FIU's agroecology program.
-Conduct field visits to collaborative institutions and conduct interviews of program and facilities.
