Science Travel Scholarship

The Agroecology Program in the Environmental
Studies Department and the Applied Research Center at Florida International
University are pleased to announce the availability of international
travel scholarships to students for ducting field projects, research
and/or internships in the fields of international agricultural issues,
agriculture sustainability and resource management. This scholarship
program is funded by the US Department of Agriculture under the
International Science and Education Grant program.
A total of 6 to 8 awards, up to a maximum
of $3,000 each, are available during the year 2007-2008.
WHO CAN APPLY: Undergraduate and masters
students of any FIU program. Students must be willing to work on
specific topics relevant to selected countries, such as water harvesting
methods, bio-energy, agricultural technologies, crop gene banks,
constructed wetlands, and agriculture policy. Student must have
a minimum GPA of 3.0
COUNTRIES: Countries of Eastern Africa,
South and Southeast Asia, and Central/South America.
PREFERENCES: Students of Agroecology
Certificates program, students interested in the ARC's DOD projects
in El Salvador, and minority students.
APPLICATION: Interested students must
send written inquiries to one of the following Project Directors
and discuss the project ideas. Please include your transcript and
a letter of recommendation. Full application packet due January
31st, 2008.
