People's Garden and National Planting Day

Event information
Venue:Keep Miami Gardens Beautiful - Miami Gardens, FL 33169

Dear Friends of the People’s Garden,

We are excited to announce that the People’s Garden Initiative is partnering with Keep America Beautiful on the first ever National Planting Day! National Planting Day is a nationwide call to plant native species from September 8 through November 30.

As part of this effort, we’re calling on People’s Gardens across the country to help us raise awareness about gardening with natives by taking action this fall in any of the following ways:

Spread the word! Tell your co-workers, community partners, friends and family about the importance of native species, and get them involved in National Planting Day. Learn more at Get Growing: a Keep America Beautiful Initiative - Get Growing: A Keep America Beautiful Initiative.

Add or expand native plantings in your People’s Garden to educate visitors about native species. Organize a planting event and register it here.

National Planting Day is a great opportunity to include students in schoolyard greening events where students not only learn about flora native to where they live but become active in a community project. Consider partnering with a local school and register it here.

Want to lend a gardening glove? Volunteer to offer technical assistance on National Planting Day. Find a local event here.

Why get involved?

This partnership was a natural fit for us since the majority of registered People’s Garden incorporate native species as a sustainable practice. By planting native species we are demonstrating how easy it is to work harmoniously with nature while beautifying our communities. Native gardens provide food and habitat for wildlife and pollinators, conserve water, protect soil from erosion, and reduce the use of pesticides and fertilizers.

No matter the size of your project, National Planting Day should be a celebration of USDA’s successes and dedication to helping the environment. We look forward to hearing about the creative projects you’ll be taking on.
